Review: Oink

Simplicity at its best!  Oink was one of the most pleasant discoveries I made during my time in Edinburgh.  It’s a shop run by pig farmers who specialise in hog roasts.  In the window bronzed with an armour of crispy crackle sits a whole roast pig.

The menu is extremely basic and requires 3 major choices before you are sinking your teeth into these delicious and succulent hogs rolls.

Being that it is actually the farmers running the store; they are able to ensure quality at all stages of production.  demonstrating the importance of quality products and how farmers markets are such a great resource for consumers.

The thing about this store that really grabbed my attention is that they have basically put into practice everything that I constantly preach, “keep it simple and let the flavours speak for themselves”.  Rather than the ubiquitous cafes that attempt to cook ten different cuisines, 100 different dishes; and failing miserably.  Oink does one thing and does it extremely well.  They cook and sell only one pig per day.  When is it sold out; they close the store and believe me, it was never open beyond 3pm.  Kudos Oink!!
